Charlie Spear

Oct, 2, 2017

Dr. Charles P. Spear Jr., age 42, was set free on Oct. 2, 2017, in Tucson, Arizona. He grew up in Mason City, Iowa.

When Charles was 16, he had a life-threatening accident. He endured many surgeries in Rochester and Iowa City. During and always after these surgeries he felt more at ease wearing a mask.

Through it all, he graduated from Mason City High School in 1993, went to Iowa State University, and graduated from Palmer Chiropractic College with high honors in 2000. He was so very proud, as he worked hard towards his achievements.

Charles married Brandi Smith, and they made their home in Tucson where Charles began his successful chiropractic practice. Together they had a son, Jace Spear. Jace was, and will always be, his most precious treasure. Charles was a proud man who loved his son and family.

Charles worked very hard, was very driven, determined and headstrong in order to accomplish his goals. He was a perfectionist with a heart of gold and a beautiful soul. He loved sports and was an avid body builder. He trained hard and won first place in the Mr. America competition.

Charles took pride in helping others, he loved the profession he chose, and was there always for his patients.

Left to cherish Charles are: his son, Jace, of Mason City (IA), significant other Cynthia Coyle of Tucson (AZ), mother Debra (Johnston) Quayle and stepfather Raymond Quayle of Mason City (IA), father, Charles Spear Sr. and stepmother Karen Spear of Tucson (AZ), brother Ryan (Mary) Pennington of Hayfield (MN), sister Stephanie Spear of Tucson (AZ), and forever friend, his son's mother, Brandi Havig of Mason City (IA), as well as aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Charles was preceded in death by his youngest brother, Christopher Pennington; his cousin, Tessa Phillips and his grandparents.

Feel comforted that now Charles is soaring high with God and with his little brother Christopher by his side. They are smiling and free as they watch over us.

Graveside services will take place at Elmwood Cemetery, just inside the front entrance, on Friday, Oct. 20, 2017, at 1:30 p.m. A celebration of life will immediately follow at the Holiday Inn Express, 3041 Fourth St. S.W., Mason City, Iowa.
